A few weeks ago I was in a bit of an inspiration slump and was in desperate need of a little garden pick me up. Lucky for me, I attended the monthly meeting with Ackworth Garden Club, which was followed by a tour of Peggy’s garden (one of the members of the club). Her garden tour put an instant smile on my face and some inspiration back in my summer.
Peggy lives out in the country on an acreage and has spent countless hours creating many lovely gardens on her property. I was like a kid in a candy store in Peggy’s gardens. Here gardens are filled with gorgeous trees, beautiful blooms, new and heirloom varieties of plants, mother natures handiwork, garden art, old repurposed treasures.
I asked Peggy how she decides where she is going to put her next garden and she said, “It all begins with a tree.” Sometimes it is planting a new tree that she has had her eye on and sometimes it is creating a garden around a fallen tree or the remains of a tree stump. All of her gardens also incorporate a piece of garden art into each garden. Sometimes it is a piece that Peggy has created herself, or it may me made by a local artist or friend and sometimes it is simply a repurposed item.
Seeing Peggy’s garden has made me inspired to create more gardens in my own yard, to add more art to my gardens and finally to start this blog that I had been dreaming of creating. Peggy’s garden gave me the inspiration I needed to want to write about it and share it with other gardeners. Thank-you Peggy for creating such beautiful gardens and for sharing them with others! Below are a few photos of Peggy’s beautiful gardens, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
These poppy seed heads are as pretty and interesting as the flowers. If you tip the head of these pods over, hundreds of seeds pour out of the top very similar to a pepper shaker. I now have a ton of seeds for spring, thanks Peggy!
Each garden starts with a tree. I definitely need one one of these Heart of Gold Redbud trees.
Gorgeous blooming coneflowers.
Peggy painted a dried allium head and paired it with a blue bottle to create this beautiful piece of garden art.
This little frog was hanging out on the coneflowers.
Heirloom daylilies given to Peggy by one of the other garden club members.
This beautiful Purple Robe Locust tree gets pretty purple flowers on it in the spring that look similar to wisteria flowers.
I love Peggy’s use of an old chair paired with these beautiful heirloom daylilies.
Peggy uses dead tree stumps such as this one as objects of garden art or incorporates them into her gardens.
